Week of May 4-May 8: Artful Thursday #4: Spring Surprises!

Spring is full of joy and surprises here in Vermont. Please watch this short introduction from Mrs. Kane and Michelangelo the Monkey to start:

Then, you are invited to choose ONE of the following art lessons ...
  • Get to know American artist GEORGIA O'KEEFFE with this read-aloud of the book Through Georgia's Eyes (4 min.)
    • Create a giant flower with cardboard, cereal boxes, or a paper bag. Here's a video from Mrs. Kane with directions:
    • OR Draw a close-up of a flower you find outside or from a photo. Here are directions from Mrs. Kane
  • Learn about American artist and explorer JOHN JAMES AUDUBON with this read-aloud of The Boy Who Drew Birds (13 min.) Then draw an American Robin with this "How to Draw" guide from Mrs. Kane.
  • Get to know French Impressionist painter CLAUDE MONET! Watch this funny cartoon (20 min.)
    • Draw a picture of Monet's famous Japanese bridge and waterlily garden with help from this video by Mrs. Kane OR ....
    • Go outside and paint "en plein air" (in the open air) a nature scene. HERE is the invitation
